.in the new messenger for vista when i try to sign in, i get the message of incoorrect id etc. What do i do?
incorrect id or password message receievd on tryin to sign in with my id. when i do the same with my old messenger( version 8), it connects immediately. I've tried it repeatedly. I have a cable internet connection with normal speed. By the way, i only have the firewall problem on my laptop with windows vista. i opened my email and there arent any folders, emails,or txt. unless i click on , mind u im guessing where an email might be, then ill see the txt and of course it opens up because i clicked on it, only to see who its from appariently all my personal info, in any account of mine has had the text color changed to white and i cant see it cuz the background page is white, so how did this happen and how can i undo it, i have suspicision of a second computered being allowed to use my wireless router and info so it can connect to the internet via my info. ive tried to change my firewall settings and it says due to an unidentifiable error u cannot change these settings. im the owner of all, and this just upsets me to no good please if u can help me, i tried to ask the one person who might of given out any of my information to another but denile is all i get.Whats really going on??????help!?From your description... you could either have a really simple configuration issue going on (such as you fat-fingered your text color) to a more serious issue that may or may not be malware related.

My girlfriend's Toshiba laptop has WIndows Vista Home Premium.
She turned it on yesterday and a driver install thing randomly popped up.
She didn't know what it was and neither did I so she hit NO when it said to install.
After that she was no longer able to connect to the internet.
When you hover over the wireless icon it says %26quot;Connection status: unknown The Dependency service or group failed to start.
I have tried numerous fixes and none have worked.
Under the NETWORK ADAPTERS in the device manager all have the triangle/exclamation mark.
When I right click and hit properties it says %26quot;This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31).
When I go to Computer Management and Services I right click DCHP client and it says
%26quot;Windows could not start the DHCP Client service on Local Computer%26quot;
Error 1079 the account specified for this service is different form the account specified for the other services running in the same process.
When I try to start Network Location Awareness.
It says Windows could not sart the Network Location Awareness on Local Computer.
Specific error code 1073741288.
I've tried the %26quot;netsh winsock reset catalog%26quot; fix in command prompt run as administrator and reset.
This still did not fix the problem.
I thought it might be a firewall problem however when I try to change any firewall settings it says that Windows Cannot Start Firewall Service.
She is the administrator on the laptop.

VISTA Home Premium Connection Status: Unknown The Dependency Service or Group Failed To Start?in device manager, remove your network adapter. When you restart windows, windows will detect the network card and reinstall with the driver that was working. That should take care of problem. You may wanna run registry scan when done. Sounds like reg error caused this.

Why won't my Wii connect to my wireless internet ?
My Wii has always been able to use the internet without a problem. Then my dad had to go change the settings of my wireless internet and now I can't connect =_=' He's staying away from my internet now..
I go to type in the WEP password on my Wii and it says the password incorrect when it is DEFINEATELY correct.. I've done it like 50 times already !!
I think it has something to do with firewall or something according to the manual but I have no freaking idea how to change the firewall settings on my computer.. it seems as thought my internet is like, blocking out the Wii from using it.

Then, click on windows firewall, near the bottom of the list. security center. then simply click off, and press ok. the firewall should be off. if you do not see a windows firewall button, click on security center, then at the bottom it will say manage security settings for: and click windows firewall. then press off, and ok. Maplestory taking more then 5 hours to download?
I'm trying to download maplestory on my Windows Vista laptop, and it is taking extremely long. I downloaded it on my Windows vista desktop and it didn't take any longer than 30 minutes. I don't know why it's taking so long...
Is it my firewall settings, and they're blocking the downloader somehow? If it is my firewall (Mcafee) how do I change the settings and what do I change the settings to? I mean, the firewall is off... but the first time I tried downloading it, it did say something about the firewall... but the second time it didn't say anything. So... I don't know.
Is there anyway to make it go faster? Why is it taking so long? How do I change the firewall settings if it is that, and what settings does it need to have?

If you're sure it's not you're laptop, then it can be your internet. Are you using dial-up on your laptop? Disabling your firewall won't make any difference. It's only useful to disable your firewall when you have a hackshield error. Also, if the cause of this IS because you have a virus, then you should definitely not disable your firewall.

Can't connect to proftpd!?
i'm running debian sarge and all of a sudden proftpd isn't working. it gives me %26quot;remote host closed the connection.%26quot; is it the firewall? how do i change the firewall settings? i already ran /etc/init.d/proftpd restart, reload, start, stop, killed the process id and started again. no luck.Can't connect to proftpd!?Yeah it could be the firewall; if possible try turning off the firewall and then test again.

I have recently got a brand new high end Toshiba laptop to replace my ageing dell inspiron. However I am stealing wireless internet from somwhere in Sydney and although my old busted laptop (xp) can connect my new laptop cant (vista)
I have tried disabling the firewall and changing the setting but nothing works.
The network in question is an unsecured network but I have been using it for months on my old laptop. The new laptop claims that it can connect to the wireless network but cant connect to the internet.
When i try to diagnose the problem the computer tells me that it may be a problem with the network router but how can that be if the old laptop connects. I know my new laptop can connect to wireless internet as I have done so before with a different network.
This may be irrelevant but how can I check what network adaptors are on both computers so I can compare
Please help!!!!

So I have tested my cam, and it is compatible. However for some reason it won't work with Yahoo Messenger. I have done everything I possibly can think of... however I do not know how to change my firewall codes and I do not have the options to choose a webcam in my preferences. How do i connect a second pc in my router?

Xbox 360 and PC with XP not seeing each other for media sharing?
I have Service Pack3, and WMP11. I have tried everything(firewall, changing too many things to write and so on) but when I go into my WMP share media thing it just freezes for a minute then goes back to normal. my questions is how do i do this when i didnt even know i had another firewall i have searched for firewall and only found something labeled

Broken AIM?
My sister AIM is broken and won't let her sign in anymore. It says %26quot;connection failed%26quot;. but she's still connected to the internet. I've tryed everything, took down her firewall, changed her firewall settings, tryed connecting to a proxy, but i have no clue whatever that is, and nothing is working. i've gone through all the help documents with AIM and our security software. 5a) Run your virus/spyware/adware scanner. Junk like that clogs up the memory and creates problems.
5b) Check to make sure your VSA is not out of date. If it is, update it and rescan.
6) Run the defragmenter and disk cleanup in your system tools. It's good for the health of your computer overall if nothing else.
7) Uninstall the app and restart your computer. Then redownload the .exe file and restart again. Then repeat steps 1-3.
8) If all else fails contact customer support. Let them know what you've already tried and be clear, concise, and courteous.
9) In the meantime use a webchat client like meebo or iloveim.com until you can resolve the issue.

First of all I am trying to download Limewire, and everytime I click the link to dowload it,it pops up for 1 secound and dissapears. Also-I have a windows XP and everytime I try to go and change my firewall settings it also pops up for a second and goes crazy! Hello all, I'm trying to access my firewall (Windows Firewall) and change the settings on it to access my Nintendo WiFi router. My computer went in to be fixed last week, and they've changed the settings to Group Policies or something so I can turn it off and use the router.

How do I prevent a program from connecting using the Windows Firewall? I am currently running Windows XP SP2. I've ran into this advice before:
Click Start Control Panel %26gt; Security %26gt; Windows Firewall %26gt; Change Settings, and click Continue if prompted by UAC.
2. Click on the Advanced tab.
3. Check the applications that you wish to unblock.
Uncheck the applications that you wish to block.
I tried following this, but then I realized this is probably for Vista, seeing as there are no applications on the %26quot;Advanced%26quot; tab. It's pretty frustrating not being able to block connections when I know it's a very simple thing to do and have done it before. How can I get rid of port blocking in Windows Firewall?
I'm trying to use Bit Comet, but I can't seem to be able to get past the blocked Listen Port. Using peer-to-peer programs like Limewire is dangerous because you do not know the person(s) on the other end. You could end up downloading a hacked version of a file that could allow them entry into your computer, store the keys you press (looking for usernames, passwords, etc), do damage to your computer, and a load of other things.
Since you have stopped using Limewire you have eliminated a very large danger to your system.
Now, if you had downloaded a hacked file it could still be lurking on your system but with AVG, Windows Firewall, and Windows Defender most those types of files will be detected/dealt-with.
With a Windows machine your vulnerability is really tied to how up-to-date you are with Windows Updates and what security software you are using. So, if you are forgetful person setup automatic updates. As for security software you have a solid program, AVG, and Windows Vista firewall is better than older versions, so leave it on unless you get a third-party firewall.
