Hi i was wondering what would be the steps to do a vin verification in California? My vehicle id legit and had all the same vin numbers when i first got it. But i ended up getting my firewall changed. Why i got it changed is a whole different topic so please don't ask why. when the work was done, i took many many pictures. i have pictures with the original vin before the change, during the change, and the new vin after the change. i still have pieces of my original firewall with the old vin intact.
So how would i go about legalizing this? I heard you have to go to the dmv first and they will send me to the chp. where they will check the vehicle and put a different tag/plate on the door jam. is this correct? what will they check for? because my car can be completed right now, but i want to do this vin check before i paint it, and when i get it painted i will strip it down to bare metal again so i don't want to put everything back in the car if i don't have to.
